It literally takes seconds to click on the Sign-up button at www.wordpress.com and choose a username/password combination. The installation of Wordpress is done as soon as the account is activated.

Installing a Wordpress Blog through Cpanel using Fantastico
Installing a Wordpress Blog using Cpanel would be done on your own hosting plan. By logging into Cpanel (usually a link that looks like this http://www.yourdomain.com:2082) all you have to do is look for the Fantastico icon. At the Fantastico main page, look for the link to Wordpress on the left hand menu.

Installing a Wordpress Blog to your hosting plan can also be done through FTP. Although most hosting companies should have Cpanel, some may not offer the feature of Fantastico's one second Wordpress blog installation.

The first step to installing Wordpress through FTP is obtaining the necessary files. Go to www.wordpress.org and download the latest version available. Save the .zip file to your Desktop or My Documents.

To unzip the Wordpress files you'll need www.winzip.com

To upload the files using FTP you'll need the FTP address to your domain name, as well as the FTP username and password. The FTP address to your domain is usually ftp.yourdomain.com or an IP address (for example 333.122.111.544)

4. Open wp-config.php in your favorite text editor and fill in your database details as explained in Editing wp-config.php to generate and use your secret key password.
5. Place the WordPress files in the desired location on your web server:
* If you want to integrate WordPress into the root of your domain (e.g. http://example.com/), move or upload all contents of the unzipped WordPress directory (but excluding the directory itself) into the root directory of your web server.
* If you want to have your WordPress installation in its own subdirectory on your web site (e.g. http://example.com/blog/), rename the directory wordpress to the name you'd like the subdirectory to have and move or upload it to your web server. For example if you want the WordPress installation in a subdirectory called "blog", you should rename the directory called "wordpress" to "blog" and upload it to the root directory of your web server.

Hint: If your FTP transfer is too slow read how to avoid FTPing at : Step 1: Download and Extract.
6. Run the WordPress installation script by accessing wp-admin/install.php in your favorite web browser.
* If you installed WordPress in the root directory, you should visit: http://example.com/wp-admin/install.php
* If you installed WordPress in its own subdirectory called blog, for example, you should visit: http://example.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php
